EMAIL:caleb@chemeng.uct.ac.za NAME:Caleb Hattingh TOPIC:Imaginary Worlds COPYRIGHT: I SUBMIT TO THE STANDARD RAYTRACING COMPETITION COPYRIGHT. TITLE:Land of the Rising Sun COUNTRY:South Africa RENDERER USED:POVray for win 3.1 TOOLS USED:Moray for win 3.1, Spatch, Paint Shop Pro 5 RENDER TIME:30 minutes HARDWARE USED:Celeron 300 IMAGE DESCRIPTION:The image is a depiction of an imaginary world filled with monsters and castles, and far off mountains, with a magical sunrise to set the scene alight . DESCRIPTION OF HOW THIS IMAGE WAS CREATED: Spatch used to make the balloons, winch, seasnake, whale tails. Moray used for everything else, including the castle (which is much more detailed than you can really see - I did the castle first, not knowing how far off it would be). The splashes around the whales are simply cones with a clever texture. I really like the effect. The heightfields were greyscale images created in PSP. The balloons engine is TOO detailed - i got carried away. If somebody wants the moray mdl you can mail me. Finally, I have come to realise how much volume fog gives to a scene. I think I will be using fog a lot more from now on. My favourite spot in the scene is where the (foggy) sunlight reflection comes through between the seasnake's tail bumps. To all competitors, the best of luck ! Thanks Caleb Hattingh
