============================================================ Bitstream Zapf Humanist 601 (Optima) font pack for LaTeX ============================================================ 2004-08-08 Walter Schmidt w.a.schmidt(at)gmx.net This bundle includes all required files for using the Bitstream Zapf Humanist 601 (Optima) Type1 fonts with LaTeX on the Un*x or PC platform. It does, however, _not_ include the actual Type1 fonts, which are to be purchased. The below installation instructions assume a TDS-compliant TeX system, such as teTeX, fpTeX, MikTeX or VTeX/Free. The directory name "texmf" refers to the root directory of the TDS directory tree. In case your TeX systems has more than one such directory tree, the documentation should tell you where to install new files. Change Log ---------- 2004-08-08 Fixed a potential bug in the macro package 2004-07-26 New macro package boptima.sty, which supports scaling and use of the "bopm" family as options 2004-01-13 The metrics support version 003.001 or later of the fonts, which includes the Euro symbol. ???-??-?? Changed directory structure. OT1 encoding no longer supported. Updating from a previous release -------------------------------- In case you have installed any previous version of this bundle, please delete the following file manually, before installing the current one: texmf/vtex/config/bop.ali In case you have installed the Jan.2000 release of this package, please delete the directory texmf/tex/latex/bitstrea/optima/ and the files texmf/doc/latex/bitstrea/optima.pdf texmf/fonts/tfm/bitstrea/optima/* texmf/fonts/vf/bitstrea/optima/* manually, before installing the the current version. Rationale: The directory structure has changed, so that installing the new files would not automatically overwrite the old ones. Also, several file names have changed, and a number of files are no longer included at all. Many apologies for the inconvenience! Installing the Type1 font files ------------------------------- | | You need not repeat this step, when updating from a | previous release of this collection, unless you | actually intend to install new version of the fonts. | The Type1 font files are to be renamed for use with TeX. The original file names may vary, depending on whether you have acquired the font files from Bitstream or Corel: Bitstream: Corel: TeX: 0015A___.PFB zhum601n.pfb -> bopr8a.pfb 0016A___.PFB zhum601i.pfb -> bopri8a.pfb 0017A___.PFB zhum601b.pfb -> bopb8a.pfb 0018A___.PFB zhu601bi.pfb -> bopbi8a.pfb 0134A___.PFB zhum601d.pfb -> bopd8a.pfb 0135A___.PFB zhu601di.pfb -> bopdi8a.pfb The .pfb files are to be copied to the directory texmf/fonts/type1/bitstrea/optima of your TeX system. The related .afm files are to be renamed accordingly; install them into the directory texmf/fonts/afm/bitstrea/optima . You may need to create these directories first. Installing the TeX support files from the archive bop.zip --------------------------------------------------------- Unpack the ZIP archive bop.zip in the directory "texmf" of your TeX system; thus, all files will be copied to the appropriate directories. Updating the filename database ------------------------------ Certain TeX systems require manually updating of a "filename database" after adding of new files. Please, consult the documentation of your TeX system! Configuring your TeX system --------------------------- | You need not repeat these steps, when updating from a | previous release of this collection! The following steps vary, according to your TeX system. There are different sets of instructions provided for * teTeX * VTeX/Free As far as other TeX systems such as MikTeX are concerned, consult the documentation how to configure the programs of the TeX system to use the additional font map file bop.map. Two copies of this file reside in the directories texmf/dvips/config and texmf/fonts/map/dvips. Configuring teTeX ----------------- Additional font map files are installed using the shell script "updmap". With teTeX-2.0 and later (or teTeX-beta as of June 2002 and later) execute the following commands: texhash updmap --enable Map bop.map With earlier versions of teTeX, consult its documentation how to use the "updmap" script. In case your version of teTeX has no such script at all, please conslt the teTeX docmentation how to install the additional map file bop.map. Configuring VTeX/Free (v8.00 and later) --------------------------------------- Make VTeX read the additional font map ("aliasing") file bop.ali. This is usually accomplished by putting a record for bop.ali into each of the configuration files texmf/vtex/config/pdf.fm and texmf/vtex/config/ps.fm The name "bop.ali" is to be added to the TYPE1 section of the above-mentioned files: TYPE1 { ... bop.ali } Using the Zapf Humanist 601 fonts with LaTeX -------------------------------------------- See the file optima.txt, which resides in the directory texmf/doc/fonts/bitstrea. Legal notice ------------ The "Zapf Humanist 601" font pack is made up from the files bop.txt and bop.zip.
